It’s Online, But Is It on Target?

It’s Online, But Is It on Target?

Part 1

Using the Web Wisely

Thanks to the Web, information is easy to find. However, it’s also easy to post something online. Anyone can do it.

You’ve probably used the internet to do research for a paper, to help you decide which product to buy, or to form an opinion about current events. Looking up information online is fast and convenient. But when you do online research, it’s important to find sites you can trust.

Many websites claim to have the facts, but are full of errors. Others present information in a biased way—they only give one side of an argument. How can you tell a reliable source from an unreliable one? Also, it is critical that you post online only that which is descent and appropriate, never anything vulgar, indecent, out of taste, untruthful, or obscene. Post things that will make a good name for you and our organization, that will promote goodwill and be of benefit to the world.

Summary and Reflection

Summary

A really good basketball player who had a bright future ahead of him due to his talents was sentenced to 3 years in jail because he physically abused his girlfriend.

Reflection

He threw away his future, he could’ve been someone. But he did something horrible to someone he is supposed to love and care for and because that he will have to pay the consequences.

Summary and Reflection

Summary

A girl was locked in a bathroom for 6 years by her grandparents. They only let her out for school and for special occasions.

Reflection

These people chose the wrong in a horrible way, how could anyone be capable of such cruelty. This is truly an act of monstrosity, and the grandparents will have to live with guilt the rest of their lives.

Summary and Reflection

Summary

A man stole money from sears and after 60 years he returned it.

Reflection

I think he did the right thing by returning it, better late than never. Because he chose the wrong he felt bad for 60 years, he could’ve avoided it by not doing it in the first place. This just goes to show, everything has a consequence, no matter how long it takes.

Student Success Statement

“So often, in our quest to be more popular and to be part of the “in group,” we lose sight of things that are far more important.”

-Sean Covey

I agree, sometimes we choose the wrong just to be popular. That’s bad; we should never choose the wrong, under any circumstances.

Student Success Statement

“You cannot do wrong and feel right. It is impossible.”

-Erza T. Benson

I agree with this this statement. To feel good, one must do good, and if one does bad, one will feel bad.

Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement

“It is our duty to concentrate all our influence to make popular that which is sound and good, and (to make) unpopular that which is unsound (and not good).”

-Joseph Smith

I think this is a very wise saying. It should be done by all. The people who abide by this are definitely choosing the right. People have to make things such as drinking and other reckless behaviors unpopular, and things like being kind and having good manners popular.

Student Success Statement

“What’s right isn’t always popular. What’s popular isn’t always right.”

-Howard Cosell

This statement is true. Sometimes the right thing to do isn’t a very popular choice, and people may find themselves out casted because they choose the right. An example of this is cursing, many people do it, it’s popular, but it’s not the right thing to do. The right thing to do would be not to curse, and that would be the less popular option. However, just because something is popular doesn’t mean you should do it, the right thing to do remains the right thing to do regardless of its popularity.

Reflection

Reflection

High school graduation can either be a good or bad experience depending on whether you choose the right or choose the wrong. If you choose the right, graduation will be a good experience for you, you’ll get to be awarded for your hard work. However, if you choose the wrong, graduation will be a bad experience, because you won’t be graduating at all, all that choosing the wrong adds up and you’ll be left out when it when graduation time comes around.

Successful Students 5-6

Successful Students

5-6

5. Don’t sit in the back of the room. Successful students minimize classroom distractions that interfere with learning. Students want the best seat available for their entertainment dollars, but willingly seek the worst seat for their educational dollars. Students who sit in the back cannot possibly be their professor’s teammate (see no.4). Why do they expose themselves to the temptations of inactive classroom experiences and distractions of all the people between them and their instructor? Of course, we know they chose the back of the classroom because they seek invisibility or anonymity, both of which are antithetical to the efficient and effective learning. If you are trying not to be a part of the class, why, then, are you wasting your time? Push your hot buttons, is there something else you should be doing with your time?

6. Take good notes. Successful students take notes that are understandable and organized, and review them often. Why put something into your notes you don’t understand? As the questions that are necessary to make your notes meaningful at some later time. A short review of your notes while the material is still fresh on your minds helps you to learn more. The more you learn then, the less you’ll have to learn later and the less time it will take because you won’t have to include some deciphering time, also. The whole purpose of taking notes is to use them, and use them often. The more you use them, the more they improve.

Tennesse Walking Horse Trainers Cheat

Summary

A trainer was found out to be cheating by inflicting severe amounts of pain to get horses to perform right. And on a random test, 52 out of 52 horses tested positive for being put through pain by harmful chemicals.

Reflection

I think it’s very bad how these trainers do this. They are torturing their horses and are cheating. It is wrong to put a living creature through such pain, and it is wrong to cheat. They should definitely stop hurting the horses and train them right.

Student Success Statement

“Seek to do good and you will find that happiness will run after you.”

-James Freeman Clarke

I agree with this statement. If you choose to do the right thing, good things are likely to follow. A good example of this is the feeling you get after you help someone. After helping someone, you get a warm feeling knowing that you made someone’s day better. Another example is the way people interact with and treat you after you do acts of good. People will begin to treat you with kindness and be nice, that in turn will make you feel happy.

Summary and Reflection

Summary

Jermaine Jones was disqualified from American Idol because he obscured his criminal past.

Reflection

I think they did the right thing because it wouldn’t be fair to everyone who has followed the law, remained clean, and have been honest.

Tiger Woods Reflection

Summary

Tiger Woods ignored his brother when he was in need; he had MS and was losing his home.

Reflection

I think Tiger Woods should help, he has the money and they are his family, he chose the wrong and should instead choose the right. CTR!!!

Student Success Statement

“Light and darkness can’t occupy the same space at the same time. CTR is light-CTW is the darkness.”

-Call/Haymore

I think this statement means you can’t be do bad things and expect to be good. You have to commit to being good, or else you’ll be bad.
